PAS 6463:2022
'Design for the mind - Neurodiversity and the built environment - Guide'
UK's frist official guidance on how to design buildings and public spaces that support neurodivergent people. Developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI), in collaboration with experts and people with lived experience, this guide sets out how to build for everyone. It goes further than just physical accessibility by recognising that sensory and cognitive accessibility is also important, referring to lighting, acoustics, way finding, rest areas and layouts/materials.
Autistica Inclusive Spaces Plan
'How to make spaces more accessible for neurodivergent people by 2030'
Focuses on sensory differences in autistic individuals and how small changes to enrionemnts can make a huge difference to accessibility. It devises a plan, in two parts - 'changing environments' and 'changing attitudes'. Through its evidence based approach it reflects real lived experiences from the autistic community. By 2023, Autistica aims for public spaces and future developments to be desgined with neurodivergence in mind from the start.
