The Purple Pound is worth £274 billion a year

The European Accessibility Act (EAA)

When businesses ignore accessibility, they're also neglecting the £274 billion Purple Pound - spending power of disabled people in the UK. Neurodivergent individuals make up a substantial slice of this spending opportunity (potentially around £40 - £55 billion). It has been estimated that supermarkets alone lose approximately £501 million per month due to accessibility barriers (Scope & The Big Hack).

It's time for change - not just for the wellbeing of neurodivergent people, but also for socio-economic benefit. Neuroinclusion doesn't require a complete rebuild, it means a rethink and some important tweaks. Once adjustments are made, you open the door to billions of missed revenue.

Not sure where to start? NeuroPlaces offers you all of the solutions and support you'll need in one room. Find your tailored solutions, whether it's creating a more sensory friendly environment, clearer communication, offering more choice and flexibility, or staff training. Whatever it is you feel you need to become more neuroinclusive, we are your starting point!

From 28th June 2025, the EAA requires accessible products and services across the EU - emphasising understand and multi-sensory information. The EAA recognises disabilities that are mental, intellectual and sensory - these are linked to neurodivergent people in particular. Making experiences within the public space more inclusive is now a compliances and a customer imperative when trading with or serving EU customers.

There is now a focus on understandability, multi-sensory communication and inclusive desgin. Waiting to comply simply increases the cost and risk of rushed fixes. Not only that but the reputational expectation is higher now more than ever, venues that lag will appear outdated and unwelcoming. Neurodiversity awareness continues to grow rapidly - early adaptors will gain reputational credit, PR opportunities and trust within communities.

Equality Act 2010

Requires reasonable adjustments for disabled people across services, employment, and public functions. It defines disability as a 'physical or mental impairment with a substantial and long-term negative effect on a person's ability to do normal day activities'. Reasonable adjustments are required to remove barriers so that disabled people can access goods, services, jobs, and education. Service providers, employers, education providers and public sector bodies must comply.
