Hello, I'm Siobhan
Siobhan has sensory sensitivities that can prevent her from doing simple daily tasks in the public environment.
"I struggle with sound in some reception areas"
"From my perspective as someone who is very noise sensitive, I struggle with sound in some reception areas.
This can usually be managed, but there are times when it can't. For example, recently, I went to pick up a prescription at my vets for my dog. It was a prescription I hadn't picked up before.
Because the reception was designed in such a way that sound carried and the person serving me was sitting down, behind a high desk, I couldn't hear her.
And then, when someone else came in and started talking behind me, and over my shoulder to another member of the veterinary team, I couldn't hear her at all and the noise was so overwhelming, I left.
This meant I didn't receive the proper instructions for the medication (e.g., the times of day I had to give it to my dog and with/without food), and it led to it being dispensed incorrectly.
Neither of my children like the loud hand dryers in bathrooms. Why airports have replaced their hand washing facilities with a sink where everyone has a handdrier is beyond me. It just means my children will not want to go in there. A facility with paper towels instead would be much better."
