DAY 2 • WEDNESDAY 16 SEPTEMBER • 12.30 – 13.15
Human conscious design: Creating spaces that work for every mind
RIBA Accredited CPD
Inclusive design celebrates the vast diversity of human experiences by putting people at the heart of the process from the start. But it’s not about designing to the common denominator, nor at the expense of creativity.
This session exploring Human Conscious Design Principles explores the specific challenges and individual needs, focusing on sensory processing, executive functioning, and emotional regulation and provides clarity on how we can design for life, highlighting key considerations for designing environments specifically with hypersensitivities and hyposensitivities in mind, as well as dementia.
Shaz Hawkins, Head of Marketing UK & IE, Tarkett

Shaz Hawkins
Shaz Hawkins is Head of Marketing for Tarkett UK&IE. She has worked within the built environment since 2010 and has been involved in a number of projects which have required a neurodiverse approach.
Together with VR-EP, Tarkett developed the world’s first filter which allows users to experience first-hand what life is like for those living with dementia. The filter brings the built environment to life allowing for better and more inclusive design.
Shaz is now expanding the virtual reality platform to support additional neurotypes including autism and hyper and hypo sensitive individuals.
