DAY 2 • WEDNESDAY 16 SEPTEMBER • 14.40 – 15.10
Fireside chat: Inside the shift: Delivering neuroinclusive workplaces in practice

A candid conversation between a workplace strategist and a client exploring what it really takes to deliver neuroinclusive environments - beyond intention and into reality.

  • What originally triggered the project (business case, employee demand, performance, retention etc.)

  • Where ambition met budget, procurement, and delivery constraints

  • What design elements survived - and what was value engineered out

  • What worked better than expected (and what didn’t) post-occupancy

  • How organisations are now embedding neuroinclusion into workplace strategy rather than one-off design decisions

Andrew Nelson

Andrew is a Workplace Design Manager at the Government Property Agency (GPA), where he champions inclusive design across the government estate. He was a key contributor to the recently updated Government Workplace Design Guide, helping embed neuroinclusive and accessible design principles into the standards that shape civil service workplaces nationwide.

With a background in estate planning and a Master’s in Architecture, Andrew has spent his career translating inclusive design ambition into delivered reality — navigating the complex budget, property holding, and approval landscapes that come with operating across a large public sector estate.

He brings a practitioner’s view of what it actually takes to move neuroinclusion from guidance to built environment, including where ambition meets constraint and what survives the journey from brief to occupied space.
